About Me
Hello!

My name is Rebecca Washington, LCSW. I am a caring, compassionate and creative woman, proud Veteran of the Army National Guard, Social Worker, and Artist.

I founded The Heart Space Art & Wellness out of a deep desire to live—and help others live—more fully, freely, and authentically. The seed was planted during a conversation with a co-worker, when I admitted that my passion for art and building community would bring me far more fulfillment than spending my days behind a desk. Although my work as a Social Worker in agency settings gave me the privilege of helping others, I realized my true calling is witnessing transformation—seeing people step into their authentic power, build the lives they want, and reconnect with their creative, resilient selves—all without burning myself out!

The Heart Space Art & Wellness was born from this vision, and shaped by my own journey of grief and healing. After my father’s passing in May 2024, my perspective shifted profoundly. I began to see life as a brief and sacred opportunity to live with intention, tend to our emotional wounds, and contribute to a world better than the one we inherited. This loss became a teacher, guiding me toward a practice rooted in compassion, connection, and presence.

My core values—warmth, creativity, authenticity, connection, compassion, intuition, balance, and love—are woven into everything I offer. At its center, The Heart Space Art & Wellness is a blend of counseling and community, where people can come to feel grounded, refreshed, energized, inspired, and capable of lasting change.

I am committed to the everlasting pursuit of freedom and joy in a world too often consumed by individualism, power hierarchies, economic turmoil, and conflict. The Heart Space Art & Wellness stands as a counterbalance—a place of care, creativity, and healing, where people are reminded of their inherent worth and their capacity to transform.

I was born and raised in Connecticut. In 2013 I enlisted in the Connecticut Army National Guard as a Human Resources Specialist where I served for 10 years. In 2014, I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree in Urban & Community Studies and Geography with a minor in Africana Studies then earned my Master of Social Work in 2023 with a focus on Policy Practice and Urban Issues.

I completed the Mindfulness Facilitator Course at Copper Beech Institute which allowed for my developing a deepened practice of intuitively weaving mindfulness techniques with my social work education, leadership skills, and compassionate nature.
